Welcome to Newton Grange, home of the Dalesend Herd of Pedigree Holsteins.
| This building is over 20 years old. The herd is run as one group. This picture looks over the Out of Parlour feeders down the shed with the cows fed down a central feed passage. Feeding is a simple ration incorporating maize silage, grass silage, brewers grains and a BOCM high energy blend, mixed with a bucket not feeder wagon. |
There is no feeding in the parlour but cows are fed to yield by Surge Out of Parlour feeders, using BOCM Challenger 18.
| The youngstock are fed cake sourced from both I’Ansons and BOCM with forage as Ad Lib barley straw. Here we look down the yard, with calving yard and dry cow accommodation on the left, and youngstock and straw storage on the right. |
| In the autumn of 2010 we built a new shed replacing the previous calving yard and some of the dutch barn which faced into the main yard. This new shed now houses a calving pen, loose housing for the close calving cows and a loose yard for freshly calved and show cows who are milked last morning and night. |
